How to record your TV screen using a video camera?

I have a Panasonic model # PV-GS80 video camera and I already have the TV/video camera connector cable. I have the cable plugged into the output jacks on the TV. The only problem is that I need help in figuring out how to switch my video camera to input mode. I really need to tape my TV screen and can’t afford to get an $80 appliance to hook up to my TV. Can anyone tell me how to tape the TV screen on the video camera I have?

I have a problem where I am trying to record some game off my tv and onto my camera and there are these black lines on my tv set when I go back and watch the film. I have tried it on one of my tv sets and it didn’t make any lines, but the next time the lines were there again. Any ideas?
