How do I keep my 2yr old twins from playing with buttons on TV?

The TV in their bedroom is a 20″ old style tube TV so it’s really bulky. Our walls won’t hold it to mount it because it is too heavy. We thought about baby gates but nothing to attach them to where the TV sits (plus they just climb them anyways). I need a safe way to allow my twins to watch TV in their room without them breaking it. And by the way, I have tried the discipline thing but they are just curious 2yr olds. Any serious ideas are welcome.

To be honest i would not have a tv in a 2 year olds room. They shouldn’t be watching so much television that they need one of their own. [who]

No, you don’t. 2 year olds do not need a TV in their room. They won’t need it even in a decade. Take it away. Problem solved. [who]

I was in the same boat with my kids, and nothing worked so we bought a very wide TV stand so the TV is all the way towards the back of the stand so they can’t reach it. Maybe try this, we spent $200 yeah it’s kind of throwing money away but at least the kids are safe and the TV is far enough away so no one can get hurt, and it’s a nice TV stand so I guess it’s an investment LOL. Hope this helps, good luck! [who]

Why do they need to watch TV in their room? [who]

I would not even consider putting a television set in a kid’s room. Not in a ten year old’s room and not in a two year old’s room. Two year olds should not be watching television AT ALL.

My suggestion is that you get that big old TV out of your house completely. Put it in the garage or give it away. [who]

As you stated you can’t put it out of their reach and you’ve already tried discipling them so the only next thing I can think of to do is remove the television from their room. They really don’t need one in there anyways, especially at that age. [who]

Take the TV out of the room. They shouldn’t be watching anyway, so why bother to have something there that’s both a safety risk and a temptation? [who]

First of all, there shouldn’t be any tv in their bedroom. I can assure you that having one in there will mean trouble for you as they get older. If they can play with the buttons then they are well on their way to learning how to change the channel and possibly watch something that could be very scary or disturbing for them. Also, having them watch tv will become a crutch for them, as they will ‘need’ this to fall asleep with. Bedtime should be the time where they wind down, and tv will just keep their minds on overdrive. Have them watch tv with you, in the family room only, and tell them that if they touch the tv when they are not allowed then they lose the show they are watching (if they are watching something), or, if the tv is off then they will get a time out. Be consistent and they will catch on. [who]
